Late Night Prayer

Salat Al Lail (Tahajjud prayer)

Tahajjud is a prayer that is before Fajr, late night prayer that is offered in the third portion of the night. It holds massive importance and big reward fo those who offer it and they are close to Allah Almighty. 

Significance of Tahajjud Prayer

The significance of the Tahajjud Prayer can be analyzed the Almighty Allah saying in the Holy Quran:

And (during part) of the night, abandon sleep and keep vigil to pray Salat, in addition to the regular obligatory prayer. Your Rabb (the Sustainer) may (as a reward) elevate you to the position of High Distinction, Glory and Praise.”

Tips for Salaat AL Lail

  1. Make niyat (intention) of performing night prayer for happiness and success, adjust yourself to wake up on that part of the night by using an alarm clock.
  2. Be in state of cleanliness and do compulsory ablution as done like before other prayers.
  3. Proceed to quiet and clean place in the house away from all the distractions.
  4. Abolish oneself from all kinds of burdens, stresses as well as everyday matters from your heart to focus and meet with Allah SWT and attain his blessings.
  5. A person can offer minimum two rakats and maximum 12 rakats, depending on one`s willpower.

Salaat Al Lail in Ramadan

The night prayer in Ramadan is Salah at-Taraweeh. It is one of the greatest acts performed by the Muslims in the holy month of Ramadan by which the worshippers tend to come closer to Allah. However Taraweeh doesn’t replace the Tahajjud, both the prayers have their own significance and importance and both are encouraged Sunnah in Ramadan. Hazrat Muhammad said that anyone who stands for night prayer in Ramadan, and hoping to get a reward from Allah, all his previous sins would be forgiven. This hadith came in two different contexts of night prayer, where scholars define it for both night prayers. Tahajjud prayer not only purifies a man’s heart and soul, but also provide oneself the inner peace of acceptance by his Allah Almighty.
